Ice Storm in the South
In the early morning hours of 12/15/05 we experienced our first ice storm of the season. We knew it was coming but were a little surprised by how bad it actually was. Every single thing that was outside was coated with ice. Of course school was cancelled for the 15th and 16th. The boys were so disappointed because their Christmas parties were scheduled for those days. Our power went off at 10:30 a.m. Luckily we had bread, milk and firewood! We huddled around the fireplace all day and listened to the radio. The power did finally come back on at 2:00 a.m. on the 16th. By this time however, we were tucked warmly in bed at Darrin's parent's house in N.C.
You can see the damage the ice did to our two beautiful trees in our front yard. I guess Bradford Pears just aren't the most sturdy trees there are. They provided such great shade in the summer time. But, we were fortunate to escape with only that misfortune. Thousands did not have power restored for over a week. Now, we are all beginning the task of cleaning up. The landscape of our housing development and our town has forever been altered however.
