Taterisms

I laid out Tater's clothes for him to wear to school. He came downstairs in a totally different outfit. When I asked him why his response was, "You are not making me wear Tigger to school." Apparently a "Tigger" sweatshirt is okay to wear at home but not at school! Who knew? (notice the sweatshirt in the picture?)

"Mom, did you know I have two little guys on my shoulder? They help me out when I have problems. Like, they tell me the answers during math superstars at school." Wow! If only we all had "two little guys."

"I don't like the kind of milk that comes from a cow. I only like the kind that comes from a jug!"

"Mom, did you know that pink and purple are boyfriend and girlfriend?" (yes, he was talking about the colors folks)

What language do you speak in the bathroom? .....................European!

Gearing up for a big weekend

Our first born is getting ready to turn 10 years old in a few day. That is hard to believe. To celebrate we're having a house full! Darrin's parents and grandmother arrived this evening. His brother will join us Friday. Then, my mom and step-dad will complete the company on Saturday morning. Bubby has invited a few of his friends to go to Monkey Joe's for 1 1/2 hours of play. Then we'll all return to our house for cake and ice cream. He's so very excited to have everyone here for his special. I had a huge list of things to get done on Monday to get ready. Want to know how many of them I actually got to? None. Tater Tot woke up at 6:00 a.m. complaining of a sore throat. He quickly got worse so a trip to the pediatrician was in order. The diagnosis? A double ear infection. He was in terrible pain. I was having to alternate Motrin and Tylenol every three hours to control the pain. Of course the doctor prescribed antibiotics and gave us some samples of ear numbing drops. It was a rough day...but he's feeling fine now. So, Monday's list was carried over to yesterday. Luckily it was hubby's day off so he could help me since I was in a time crunch now. We got 95% of the house cleaning done. I finished up this morning and made it to the grocery store before they all arrived. I made mini-meatloaves for supper and now we're all settled in to watch American Idol. It's going to be a hectic but truly enjoyable week. Stay tuned for more details about the party.

A search engine just for mommy blogs!

How does a search engine just for mommy blogs sound? Yeah, sounded great to me too! Michelle at scribbit.com has created just that. I first read about it at Blogging Basics 101. So head on over, read up about it and then go search.

I'm blessed with the best in-laws!

There have been quite a few things in my life that haven't gone as planned. Things that I had absolutely no control over that adversely affected me. However, there is one thing that went perfectly right! The Lord saw fit to give me the best in-laws ever. They have been a part of my life for 16 years now. They truly are a set of second parents. Actually, my father-in-law is more like a father. He is an absolute blessing. Just before writing this post I called to ask my m-i-l a quick question. She wasn't home so he and I chatted for 30 minutes. Yes, 30 minutes. How many of you have done that with your f-i-l lately? This past Valentine's day I even received a card just from him. The front of it said, To my Daughter. And yes, it made me cry. If you have an amazing f-i-l like mine, be thankful...and let him know you are thankful. If you don't, pray...God still works miracles.

Bonding at the Arenacross Series

Last Saturday night we took the boys to see the Toyota Areanacross Series downtown. I was really reluctant to go. I thought it would be a wonderful bonding experience for daddy and the boys. But, they thought I should tag along and experience the excitement for myself. So, I spent 2 1/2 hours surrounded by thousands of men and boys who were totally in their element. Dirt, motorcycles, speed, jumps....yeah I could see why they were all so excited. But, it just didn't do a thing for me. However, I did delight in watching Tater Tot. After all, if you'll remember he was a dirt bike rider for Halloween last year. This is his life ambition after all. So, needless to say, he could not have been happier. He planned for this event big time. He wore his "Fox" motorcycle shirt, had me fix his hair into a mohawk and even took his dirt bike helmet with him to get it signed. He's a smart kid. Garrett wasn't all that impressed. He was ready to go after about 15 minutes. He said, "at least I'll know not to come next year." My sentiments exactly. From now on I think Tater Tot and daddy can handle the dirt bike scene on their own.

Tater with his signed helmet

Yes, that's also Tater's toy dirt bike Jim Neese is signing.

I've been Stumbling!

Where have I been you ask? I have been spending way to much time at StumbleUpon.com! It's just the coolest thing. It allows you to surf the web by your specific interests. You register (for free) and then click on what you're interested in (humor, quizzes, photography, etc.) and stumble away. As an added bonus it's a great place to meet like minded people. I do have some interesting posts that I plan on writing in the next day or so, so please come back. In the meantime however, go Stumble a little! If you'd like, you can start on my page.

There are 10 of me in the U.S.

HowManyOfMe.com
LogoThere are:
10
people with my name
in the U.S.A.

How many have your name?

I saw a link to this silly little site on my cousin's blog so of course I clicked on it. I found out some pretty interested little tidbits:

  • There are 142,485 people in the U.S. with the first name Shane.
  • 97.89% of people with the first name Shane are male.

I suppose I am pretty unique since only ten other people in the United States share my exact name (first and last name). However, I have never really been a big fan of my name. I've often questioned my mother about her choice. How was it possible that she looked at her newborn daughter and thought the name "Shane" was appropriate? Shane? That's a western movie about a cowboy for Pete's sake! And, to make matters worse, it isn't even my first name. My first name is quite feminine and would have worked just fine. But oh no, she added the ultra male name to it and then chose to call me that as opposed to my first name. I do like my name better now that is paired with my husband's last name. It does sound a little "cool" I suppose. I was determined that when we had children they would go by their first names. I thought, if I didn't really like their first names enough to actually call them by it, then why give it to them in the first place? Well, anyway, go see how many people share your name.

Encouraging a Child with Words

I read this on The Draper House blog and wanted to share it with you....

"I got two A's," the small boy cried, his voice filled with glee.
His father bluntly asked, “Why didn't you get three?""Mom, I've got the dishes done!" the girl called from the door.
Her mother very calmly said, "Did you sweep the floor?""I've mowed the grass," the tall boy said, "and put the mower away!"
His father asked him with a shrug, "Did you clean off the clay? The children in the house next door seem happy and content.
The same things happened over there but this is how it went."I got two A's" the small boy cried, his voice filled with glee.
His father proudly said, "That's great! I'm glad you live with me!""Mom, I've got the dishes done!" the girl called from the door.
Her mother called and softly said, "Each day I love you more.""I've mowed the grass," the tall boy said, "and put the mower away!"
His father answered with much joy, "You've made my happy day!"Children deserve a little praise for tasks their asked to do.
If they are to lead a happy life, so much depends on you
