Christmas Meme

I saw this meme and thought it was cute so I borrowed it from Andria over at Boy Crazy.

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? Egg nog all the way baby!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree? Amazingly Santa some how finds the time to actually wrap our boy's gifts. Go figure.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White and only white.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope, never have.

5. When do you put up your decorations? The tree goes up Dec. 1st. The decorations...whenever I get around to it.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Ham

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Waking my mom and step dad up at the crack of dawn.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? What truth? What are you talking about??

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Christmas morning.

10. What kind of decorations are on your Christmas Tree? We have ones the boys have made, special ones I buy them each year, ones people have given us. All of the ornaments have a story behind them.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread? Absolutely hate it! I had enough of it the 31 years I lived in West Virginia. That's one good thing about the snow...no snow.

12. Can you ice skate? Gave it a try once....it's not for me.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Oh yes! It was my Barbie Dream House when I was 8 or 9 years old.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Spending time with family.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Peanut butter fudge.

16 What is your favorite holiday tradition? Buying an ornament for each of our boys that represent something that happened in their lives the previous year. For example, Payton got a little boy wearing a backpack and holding books to signify his first day of kindergarten. I got Garrett a basketball player to signify his first year playing Upward basketball.

17. What tops your tree? An angel hubby and I bought at K-Mart for our very first Christmas together 15 years ago. I wouldn't dare replace her.

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? I'd much rather give.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? "Mary Did You Know" by Mark Lowry.

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yummy? Yummy in small quantities. I especially like the cinnamon ones.

Book Meme

I was tagged by Andria over at Boy Crazy .....

So here are the directions:
Grab the book closest to you.
Open to page 123.
Scroll down to the 5th sentence.
Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog - name of the book and the author.
Then tag 3 people.

Here goes....Today, many specialists in the field of reading comprehension subscribe to the schema theory. Schemata, those organized structures of knowledge or "memory banks" in which new facts and experiences find a home, hooked firmly to memories of previous knowledge and events, are what makes learning possible. A schema supplies a solid system for memory retrieval and allows us to make inferences about life as it occurs around us.

That was from Succeeding Against the Odds (How the Learning Disabled Can Realize Their Promise) by Sally L. Smith. My nine year old son has three learning disabilities, therefore, I'm interested in the subject. Hopefully I'll learn something that can actually benefit him.

Now I tag.....
Angie, Becky, and Rose, but anyone else who sees this is welcome to play as well.

Years Meme

I stole this cute meme from Everyday Mommy. I don't think she'll mind though, since she stole it too. :)

20 years ago I . . .was 15 years old and fell for my "first love."

10 years ago I . . .had been married for 5 years, was getting ready to graduate from college and find out I was pregnant (for the first time) three weeks later.

5 years ago I . . .was a stay-at-home-mom of my 4 year old and 6 month old sons and loved going to my "mommy & me" group.

3 years ago I . . .along with my family, was uprooted from our home sweet home in West Virginia and relocated to the south due to my husband's new job.

1 year ago I . . .was completely devastated by the loss of my Papaw from lung cancer.

So far this year I . . .have made some wonderful new "mommy" friends.

Yesterday I . . .nursed my sick hubby through a 48 hour virus.

Today I . . .kissed and hugged my children as they left to spend a long weekend at their Grandma and Grandpa's.

Tomorrow I will . . .sleep in (yeah!) and eventually clean house.

In the next year I will . . .watch my baby go off to school and wonder how to fill my days.

In the next minute I will . . .wash my face and go to bed. Nighty, night.

I said: "Yes" to my son all day because he was sick
I want: a clean house
I wish: my husband didn't snore

I hate: it when my kids bicker
I miss: my Papaw
I fear: sailing in the ocean
I hear: "Mommy or Mama" at least 100 time every day
I wonder: what our boys will be when they grow up
I regret: not keeping in touch with friends
I dance: only in the car (while my boys laugh at me)
I sing: almost every song I hear
I cry: when I watch a sappy movie
I am not always: on time
I made: fried squash & corn bread for supper (told ya I was a country girl!)
I write: poetry
I confuse: my kids (I mix their names up a lot)
I need: to get out of bed earlier
I should: be asleep right now (it's after midnight)
I start: planning for everything way in advance
I finish: what I start, eventually
I believe: my husband was meant for me
I know: I'll see my Papaw again
I can: make my boys laugh
I can't: sleep well without our two Yorkies on our bed
I see: my dog laying on his back, sound asleep
I blog: as often as I can
I read: the newspaper every morning at breakfast
I find: empty candy wrappers everywhere
